HOW ARE SESSIONS FORMATTED?
Sessions at TheraSWIM are scheduled as standing appointments. This allows you to have the most flexible options around your child’s specific needs. Whether you would like them to attend therapy every week for the near future, 2 x’s a week for 1 month while they recover from a surgery, or any variation, TheraSWIM has an option for you. The most common choice is to attend one session/week at a consistent day/time (ex. 9:00 on Mondays). While the length of participation is flexible, prior notice is requested before discontinuing to allow for another child to fill the appointment time.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS AND AQUATIC THERAPY?
There are MANY differences between adaptive swim lessons/water safety classes and aquatic therapy. The main differences are who provides the services and what the goals of the sessions are.
Adaptive swimming lessons are lessons designed to assist children with special needs in learning how to swim. Many children with physical, sensory, or learning differences need a unique approach to swimming instruction that meet their individual needs. Often, safety and independence in the water are a primary focus of these lessons. At TheraSWIM, these lessons are provided by qualified swimming instructors with experience teaching lessons and working with children with special needs. All swimming instructors are required to complete the SwimAngelfish Methodology certification. Water Safety Classes are specialized adaptive swimming lesson with a functional, safety focus modified specifically for children at risk of eloping, wandering, or entering water without safety awareness.
Aquatic physical or occupational therapy is skilled therapy treatment that is medically necessary. They are provided in the water by a licensed physical or occupational therapist. This is a specialized type of physical or occupational therapy that has many benefits for different populations of children. The focus of aquatic therapy is on improving a child’s motor abilities, range of motion, balance, strength, sensory regulation, and core stability through therapy intervention using the amazing properties of the water. There is a growing body of research that show that children receiving aquatic therapy make faster gross motor gains than those with land-based therapy alone! Check out the Aquatic Physical or Occupational Therapy page to find out more!
IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO AQUATIC THERAPY AT THERASWIM WHILE DOING OTHER THERAPY AT ANOTHER CLINIC?
Yes! We have many patients that see other land-based therapists at other clinics and doing aquatic services with us. We will write a Coordination of Care letter with your other therapy clinic! It’s important that you don’t do the same type of therapy on the same day at two locations. Please let your therapist know if you have seen another provider within the last year and what day you do other therapy!
DO YOU HAVE CLINIC/LAND-BASED THERAPY?
YES! In addition to our aquatic therapies, TheraSWIM also provides clinic-based Physical and Occupational Therapies. Our experienced therapists work closely with you to address your specific needs and goals, ensuring comprehensive care and support in our awesome gym and treatment rooms.
WHAT ARE MY PAYMENT OPTIONS/INSURANCE OPTIONS?
Aquatic Physical or Occupational Therapy: TheraSWIM is in network with Medicaid and Colorado Access (CHP+) for physical and occupational therapy services. We are out of network with all private insurance companies, however we are able to submit the claims to your insurances. We accept payment with cash, check, or credit/debit/HSA card at a significant discount for card-on-file payments (auto-pay). If requested, we will provide an invoice for you with the information needed if your insurance company has benefits eligible for out of network providers. It is your responsibility to verify insurance benefits for your child. You may also be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for therapy services. Many families utilize Family Support and Services Program (FSSP), Restricted Funds, or other program funds to assist with payment for Aquatic Therapy services. Financial aid may be available for a limited number of patients for a set period of time.
Adaptive Swimming Lessons/Water Safety Classes: TheraSWIM accepts the CES waiver for Water Safety Classes. For adaptive swimming lessons, we accept payment by credit or debit card. Once you register, we request your credit card number to enter in our system. The system is very secure and once the card is entered, our team does not have access to the account number or information. We will charge your card on file by the following Monday of each week when your adaptive swimming lesson take place.
GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE: Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act and its implementing regulations, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a group health plan, or group or individual health insurance coverage, or a Federal health care program, or a Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program health benefits plan (uninsured individuals), or not seeking to file a claim with their group health plan, health insurance coverage, or FEHB health benefits plan (self-pay individuals) in writing (and may also provide it orally, if an uninsured (or self-pay) individual requests a good faith estimate in a method other than paper or electronically), of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.
DO YOU TAKE THE CES WAIVER?
YES! Please ensure we have a copy of your kiddos most recent service plan from your case manager! Our admin team will reach out to let you know if your kiddo is close to the end of their allotted funding for water safety! You’re also always welcome to reach out if you want an update on how many lessons your child has remaining on their account.
