Adaptive Swim Lessons

Learning to swim can be a satisfying, confidence-building, and life saving skill for children.  Swimming can be a lifelong hobby and mode of exercise.  At TheraSWIM, we use the Red Cross swimming lesson skill paths as a guideline to progress your child to become a safe, independent swimmer.  Adaptations are made depending on the cognitive, behavioral, and physical ability of your child.  We use a private lesson model to ensure that each child is safe and has a lesson specifically designed for them.  We are especially skilled at helping children with physical limitations learn how to move their bodies independently whether with or without floatation devices.

We offer 2 types of Adaptive Swimming Lessons:

Therapeutic Swimming Lessons- These lessons are provided by a licensed Physical Therapist and are for children with significant movement challenges or who need skilled handling.  Children with diagnoses like spinal muscular atrophy, quadriplegic cerebral palsy, high level spinal cord injury, etc would be excellent candidates for this program.

Adaptive Swimming Lessons- These lessons are provided by a trained Swimming Instructor with a certification in the Swim Angelfish Methodology.  They are focused on  meeting the needs of any child that would benefit from specialized instruction and adaptation from a typical swimming lesson format.  Children with autism, sensory processing disorder, coordination or communication difficulty, trauma, visual impairment, hearing impairment, developmental disability, or many other conditions would be a good fit for this type of lesson.

Please contact us to discuss which option would be the best fit for your child.
